The sister-site Skogsforum.se* had a look at the Swedish market** for small forwarders, between 5 – 8 tons. It´s a relatively small market in total, and the figures presented here are only for the Swedish market. When it comes to large forwarders, Sweden reflects the World market quite well. As for the small forwarders, it´s probably a bit different.
Small forwarders
In the size 5 – 8 tons, Malwa 560F, Terri 34C and Vimek 610SE are available together with models of Novotny and Wood-Tiger. No machines of the two latter have however been registered by the Swedish Transport Agency** in 2019 or 2020.
2018 was the best year ever for forwarders in this size with 40 registered machines in Sweden. In 2019, 31 machines were registered in this segment, and so far in 2020, 20 has been registered.
Change in market shares
Compared to 2017, Malwa keeps their market share in Sweden of 55 %, as Terri doubles theirs’s from 12 % to 25 %. The loser in this is the Vimek 610 that goes from 32 % in 2017 to 20 % in 2019.
One explanation of why Vimek lost market shares in Sweden could be a large order to Belarus that was signed in 2016. This order was very much in focus for Vimek in 2017 and 2018, so much that it affected the Swedish (home-) market for them in a negative way. Now, when all machines were delivered to Belarus, Vimek has difficulties in catching up again in Sweden and elsewhere.

Even smaller machines
There is also a small segment of machines that are even smaller than the above mentioned. Vimek has one model in that segment, the Vimek 606. It is not in this comparison but if it was, Vimek and Malwa would end up on approximately the same number of delivered machines in Sweden in 2019 and 2020 (so far).

** In Sweden, all forwarders are registered by the authority Swedish Transport Agency (Transportstyrelsen). As the Swedish market for CTL-machines is the largest market in the World (2019), those figures give a fairly good picture of the total market for CTL-machines. The harvesters are, however, not registered by the Transport Agency, but the number of manufactured harvesters follows the number of forwarders in most cases.
